Bug Description

Binary package hint: baobab

OS: Ubuntu Hardy (8.04)
Package version: baobab 2.20.0.1-1ubuntu5
Mirror: Positive Internet

After telling baobab (Disk Usage Analyser - DUA) to scan a remote partition, the first time the usage column is correctly shown. When I hit Refresh in the DUA, the usage column turns to -.-% for all entries except the folder I told it scan which reports 100%.

See the attached screenshot (folder names blurred).

When I hit refresh I expect the Usage column to reflect the new usage.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Scan a folder (eg. Scan Filesystem).
2) Click "Usage" to sort (ascending, arrow down).
3) Click "Refresh".

What should happen:

4) Usage column displays correct percentages.

What actually happens:

4) Usage column is filled with -.- %.

The display you have attached reflects a not conmpleted scan. When the scan is fully completed, the usage column is recalculated and displayed.

Baobab is part of gnome-utils, changing sourcepackage. I can also confirm the problem still exists with gnome-utils 2.24.1-0ubuntu3 on Jaunty.

Bug 274235 describes a similar issue with ascending Usage, it's possibly a duplicate.

This bug is no more reproducible in current 2.26.0 release (after transistion to Gio). So, I assume the bug is fixed.

could other people try if that's also fixed for them in jaunty?

@Hew McLachlan:

could you pls provide more details? I have tried again either on ssh and ftp remote connection, and the usage column is always correctly shown even after hitting refresh.

Did you follow the steps to reproduce that I added to the bug description? The key is you need to first sort the Usage column (ascending, arrow down), before refreshing / rescanning. It does not depend on what you are scanning, I reproduced it with "Scan Filesystem".

Really, it shouldn't be possible to sort Usage since it's the same as Size. Perhaps the solution is these two columns should just be merged into one.

Most people report this bug as fixed. The people still experiencing issues never responded to the questions of the developers below. Thus, I am closing this bug.

This problem is easy to reproduce using the simple steps in the description. Still an issue with baobab 3.3.3-1. However I'm closing this as there is obviously no interest in this bug.
