Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

To reproduce:
1. load any video on youtube
2. click the little fullscreen button in the lower right hand corner of the youtube "player"

What happens:
nothing

What should happen:
We get a new, maximized/fullscreen window with the player... etc.

Error console:
Error: openFull is not defined
Source File: javascript:openFull()
Line: 1

If this is a bug in youtube, that's why we have quirks mode.

Fullscreen mode works fine for me.. are you able to provide any more information on this report? Any configuring you may have done?

I use GCJ (GCJ Web Browser Plugin (using IcedTea) 1.0), which is an OSS (I think) Java equivalent
my flash version is: Shockwave Flash 9.0 r100
I use compiz-fusion and emerald with a custom window theme, but that seems totally unrelated...
I have javascript installed, but it doesn't seem to be listed at about:plugins (I know it's installed because javascript:alert("hello world") works), so I don't know about it. NoScript is configured to block google-analytics but not youtube.

Just for sanity checking purposes... you are using Hardy, right? I distinctly remember this not existing in Gusty, possibly because of Fx 3 itself being buggy and it in turn totally screwing up Fx 2 (It does, I've noticed it. They share a profile and have problems with addons -- mostly in Fx 2) -- there's no Fx 3 in Gusty, so there's no source of bugs.

Just realized... in my Fx 2 none of the addons were working -- even the Fx 3 compatible ones like AB+. Thus, NoScript is irrelevant.

One more thing, sorry about the spam, but by full screen mode, I DO NOT mean what happens when you hit F11. I mean the little rectangular "button" in the YouTube "player." I attached a .tar.bz2 archive with two edited screenshots (I circled the "button" I'm talking about). One image is the new beta "player" and the other is the classic "player"

What package is your flash plugin coming from? It is only relatively recent versions of flash that do fullscreen, and there always seem to be a lot of options covered

I get flash from 'flashplugin-nonfree', which provides 9.0.124, which can do fullscreen. From flash's release notes (http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/9/releasenotes.html), fullscreen in Linux is from version 9.0.115 upwards.

Full screen on youtube.com stopped working with Firefox 2.0.0.14 on gutsy, but a reinstall of flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.124.0ubuntu1~gutsy1 with synaptic did repair it for me.

I suspect that this is a bug in flash player, not firefox.

Can anyone confirm:
- Does this happen with other flash videos (I'm sure there are plenty that have a fullscreen button)?
- Does this definitely happen with flash player >= 9.0.115 (if your version of flash player is older than that, then it's not a bug...)

I use swfdec-mozilla (because gnash is too broken to be useful). flashplugin-nonfree isn't installed on my computer. It may be partially or entirely a bug in swfdec.

After reinstalling swfdec, the same error still shows up in the console, the player still does not maximise, BUT I do get some change on the old player, specifically, the movie stops and rewinds to beginning. I do not get normal, expected behavior.

For no apparent reason, full screen of youtube flash player stopped working again. I removed all other flush player plugins (libflash0c1 and libflash_mozplugin) as recommended in the (german) thread:
http://www.ubuntu-forum.de/artikel/30388/gel%C3%B6st-flash-player-in-firefox-geht-nicht.html
but this didn't change anything.

But about:plugins showed me two Shockwave Flash plugins:
1) File name: libflashplayer.so Shockwave Flash 9.0 r31 and
2) File name: libflashplayer.so Shockwave Flash 9.0 r124

After I completely removed flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.124.0ubuntu1~gutsy1 with synaptic, about:plugins still showed me:
File name: libflashplayer.so Shockwave Flash 9.0 r31

A 'locate libflashplayer' showed me:
~/.mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
~/.mozilla/plugin/libflashplayer.so
which I removed manually and installed flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.124.0ubuntu1~gutsy1 via synaptic again. Now about:plugins correctly just shows:
File name: libflashplayer.so Shockwave Flash 9.0 r124
and full screen flash player works again. I'm not sure whether this was the problem, but I'm guessing that the 'old' flash plugin version wasn't correctly removed by an earlier update and maybe the two plugins had an initialize order problem?

It seems that swfdec does not yet have fullscreen support--see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=476867

I cannot find anything about fullscreen support in libflash. But looking at the source package (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libflash/), it has not changed since at least feisty, and has only been incremented by very small numbers (0.4.10 to 0.4.13) before that. So I suspect it's horribly out of date.

Right, your profile version was too old. Now the system-wide install
is used and it should work.

However, we use this bug to track the problem in _swfdec-mozilla_ now.
