Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

I'm unable to change the time/date on my machine.

The time/date dialog has no way to change the time, and the option to unlock is greyed out.

I have the sudo password for my machine, even running the command with gksudo and sudo, and that doesn't work either.

How are you accessing this preferences window?

Have you tried 'gksu time-admin'?

I have the same issue, also can't change Users/Groups, unlock button grayed out.

Tried to run 'sudo gksu time-admin' and unlock button still grayed out.

Received the following:

in addition to above comment, I am running 8.04 on AMD64. Fresh install from server addition, added desktop by apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

One last important detail I just noticed. The problem only occurs when I am accessing machine via NX client. (running nx server on ubuntu server)
When accessing the machine directly, problem does not occur. But this is going to be a headless server, so this will not be a long term solution.

I tried to add nx and my user to polkituser group, log out/on but no luck.

Me too. Happens when accessing the desktop via VNC. Computer is in another country, hence no way to test at the actual thing.

the command in hardy are not meant to be ran using sudo, are users having the issue running local commands?
do you use gdm to start your session?

I'm having the same problem using local machine. Problem is not limited just to time-admin but to whole new "unlock"-"system policy" new feature. Changing settings in nm-applet is also not possible, when I write my password "unlock" window acts as it would when the pass is not valid or "unlock" button is greyed out.

I'm sure it worked before.

This happens when sitting at the machine. I am not accessing it remotely. Clicking on the time date applet in the top panel causes the panel to crash and reset.

I have resolved this problem by reinstalling gnome-system-tools. I then had to copy the files /usr/share/zoneinfo/zone.tab and zulu from another machine running Ubuntu 8.04.1. All functions of calendar and time setting are now functioning normally.

I got the same problem with 2.22.1-0ubuntu1 on Ubuntu/Intrepid, but I succeeded in changing all the details using just time-admin (without sudo and/or gksudo), so authenticating in the resulting window... maybe it could be the same on Ubuntu/Hardy. Obviously, I'm running a 64-bit version.

I can confirm this problem on 8.04 affecting time-admin and network-admin. The unlock button on both is greyed out making it impossible to use.

Please, don't report potentially different bugs at the same place. Could the original reporter (mattl) confirm that bug is still occuring? What about Tilo? If so, please file separate reports, and if possible try to reproduce the problem in Karmic, where things have much changed in that regard. Thanks!

No problem, I prefer things that way too... So I'm closing it, don't hesitate to file new reports (rather than reopening this one) if you run into trouble. Thanks!
