Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

In my custom pack, I have an emoticon that replaces 'lol'. Unfortunately, it also replaces the 'lol' in people's names in the conversation window. This shouldn't be by design, if it is, there needs to be a way to fix it.

I believe this behavior is the exact same in Windows MSN.... It basically allows people to put icons in there nickname, how else would you expect people to add icons to there name?

I know, but theres no emoticons in MSN that have substitues like "lol" so it doesn't interfere with names.

I have requested that this issue be marked as a "wishlist" as it seems to be the most appropriate for your request. Understanding that custom emoticons can cause problems (some of them can be quite large in size, or quite animated) might cause problems in the nickname line in terms of readability it would require a feature change to exclude certain custom emoticon mappings.

Just to clarify, the issue was that by having a mapping such as (lol) in a nickname field it could cause problems locally if the user has an icon that is either really large or quite animated.
