totem cannot read dvd

I insert dvd, totem opens, then informs me that operation canceled, cannot read.

I just installed ubuntu 8.04 LTS Desktop Edition, works fine except my DVD Player will not work.

Thanks for your bug report. Could you try to follow the steps for DVD playback described under the menu: System->Help and Support.

I looked in System->Help and Support. I typed 'DVD' in the search window. The first heading is "Movies, DVD's and Videos." I selected this one. (I tried the totem manual, but it was useless.) Under this heading, I selected "Playing DVD's." The second bit of advice they give helps you enable the totem player to read the DVD. It looks like the problem is solved.
