Crash when receiving garbage from serial line.

Binary package hint: minicom

My appliances send some garbage (wrong port speed or whatever) during one phase of bootup, which causes minicom to crash with the following error message:

minicom: ../iconv/loop.c:430: internal_utf8_loop_single: Assertion `inptr - bytebuf > (state->__count & 7)’ failed.

My locale is de_DE.UTF-8 and I work around this crash by running minicom as "LANG=C minicom".

I am also having this problem running on kubuntu 8.04.1
The workaround mentioned in the first comment does the trick for me..
Until this gets fixed, I created an alias for minicom to run it as suggested:
in ~/.bashrc: alias minicom='LANG=c minicom'

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Karmic Koala. Sorry, I haven't had an opportunity to attempt to reproduce with Koala (nor do I expect to anytime soon -- this is a corporate installation and we're fixed at 8.04LTS for a while...)
