Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-dev

If I use the text search box, Firefox closes when the text search box closes.

Steps to reproduce (happens every time with these steps for me):

1) On any page, type '/' to intiate a text search
2) Type some text in the search box
3) Don't type anything and wait for the text search box to auto close
4) Cry because you were only 1/2 through the paragraph you wanted to read. :-(

Ubuntu Hardy, 32 bit. Upgraded from Edgy --> Feisty --> Gutsy --> Hardy...maybe it's just time for a fresh reinstall. 2G RAM, 3GHz P4.

I deleted my ~/.mozilla folder in case there was something left over from Firefox2 which was causing it to crash. The results were the same before and after deleting.

I searched for a Firefox 3 debug package, but couldn't find one. I've attached a backtrace below, but I'm afraid it probably isn't very useful without debug symbols.

I do have ~6 plugins installed, but the results were the same before I installed them.

The crash occurs regardless of how much RAM or CPU are being used.

I can provide more info if requested. If I don't get this working or get feedback in the next 2 weeks or so though, I'll probably do a reinstall and see if that fixes it. After that, who knows if I'll be able to reproduce it.

Thanks,
Michael Moore

Do you still see this issue? If so, are you running an nvidia card?
Another problem might be that you have libflashsupport installed,
which causes a bunch of crashes quite easily. Try to remove that
package

Since it's been a very long time since any additional info was added to this bug, I'm just checking to see if this is still an issue, and find out what additional work should be done on this bug.
