Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

I usually have 3 layouts in my keyboard preferences layout list:
 - USA
 - Germany
 - Portugal
After a reboot, the list remains the same, but clicking on the applet only toggles between the first two layouts.
I can add Portugal a second time and the layout is accessible again.
After another reboot it I have USA, Germany and 2 times Portugal, but again, Portugal isn't selectable any more. Besides that, the add button is disabled now. So I remove both Portugal entries from the list, add Portugal once, and it works again. Until the next reboot.

Package: gnome-applets 2.22.1-0Ubuntu2
Release: Ubuntu 8.04
Expectation: The layout list remains effective after a reboot
Fact: It doesn't

Many users in the ubuntuusers.de forums have the same problem with the Russian language: http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/179498/ or http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/170381/ The problem is that the config tool of the keyboard indicator applet is started by a user and can't modify the xorg.conf. If you manually modify the xorg.conf everything works correctly.

there is a bug on http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=535668 about the issue, maybe somebody getting the bug could comment there?

I switched to the xfce desktop where it never has been a problem for
me.
 Thanks for the attention.

For me it is still an problem - but to it seems a minor one ;-)

I'd like to have 4 different layouts:
German nodeadkeys
Norwegian
Swedish
USA (DOS style)

The latter one is converted (see #3) into German with circiumflex - which should be the same? (I really don't know it)
But the selected layout should be saved 'as selected' and not transformed to the keyboard layout... I think this is what Ubuntu ist doing with it

I have a feeling this is same issue as in 407585 but I does not know enough about system. For me it is a great annoyance.

After every reboot the keyboard applet shows my chosen Danish keyboard layout but the actual keyboard layout is USA. At least it is consistent with Show current layout which correctly shows what is used. I then have to switch to USA and then back to Denmark to get correct layout. After every reboot I have to repeat this...

Another issue probably related to this problem is if I delete USA keyboard layout so only Denmark exists then after next reboot USA keyboard layout appear again.

It is a new problem introduced only in Natty.
