Bug Description

Fixing overscan on a CRT always involves setting the offsets of the mythtv frontend screen. When settings these offsets to anything other than zero (the default), either by manually entering the numbers of by using the new 0.21 screen setup wizard causes the xfce menu bar to show at the top of the screen and the frontend screen is moved down below it. So 0x0 of the frontend window starts directly below the bar. The also results in the bottom of the frontend screen moving off the bottom of the X screen.

Resetting the offsets to zero moves the frontend back into fullscreen covering the xfce menu. Even setting the offset to 1 pixel produces this bug.

I've confirmed that if you change any of the four values (x size, y size, x offset, or y offset), you get xfce task (aka system) bar. Problem with mythbuntu, myth itself, or xfce?

I want to also confirm that this also occurs with s-video out to a TV.

As this doesn't look like it's going to be fixed anytime soon here's a almost usable workaround.

Set the menu panel above to autohide and move it to the bottom of the screen. When you alter the offset in Myth the screen will appear above the panel but it now looks like a thin white line. Adjust overscan to move this line off the visible screen.

...or just change the panel to autohide and leave it at the top. Myth screen now fills the screen.
Works for me anyway.

Bug #469999 indicates this is still the case with 0.22 and Mythbuntu 9.10

This affects 10.04 as well, with the same workaround (panel hiding) being a quick fix.

I can confirm that I can still see the problem under 10.04. Using auto-hide for the menu isn't really a fix as there are other side effects.

Can someone verify if this is an issue with Mythbuntu installs (eg, in the Mythbuntu session). This sounds like an issue with compiz

I don't know if this applies as a confirmation but since upgrading to natty the xfce hidden panel thin bar appears on top of the MythTV GUI. I must hover the pointer over it to make it dissappear. BTW I do not use compiz.

We really do appreciate you opening this ticket to help improve Mythbuntu, but it needs to be closed for a number of reasons. The biggest one is that upstream has moved on to a new version and believes this to be fixed. Could you please verify if this issue still exists in the latest version?

Please do not let the closing of this ticket dissuade you from opening a new ticket if this (or any other) problem occurs with the newer versions.
