Bug Description

Binary package hint: nvidia-kernel-common

A legacy nVidia driver for a TNT Pro card that worked in 7.10 will not enable in 8.04 LTS. Trying to enable iit generates the following message:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

 Running the command does not solve the problem.

 I have to use the generic ....-14 kernal since the ....-16 hangs while loading.

Thank you for your report, but I think this is much more question, than bug, so I'm converting it to question.
