Bug Description

I wonder why the default installation of Ubuntu 5.10 doesn't install the latest
version of gcc?
I know that I can get it by doing a apt-get install gcc-3.4 but I would like to have
it in the default ubuntu.

thanks

Please direct general questions to ubuntu-users. This is not a bug. gcc is not
installed because normal users have no use for it.

DISAGREE - Most new Users are still dependent on modems for Intenet CONNECTs,
and most modems in new PCs are WinModems
This requires compiling of downloaded driver packages and compiling.
This problem is currently compounded by the fact that:
Brezzy was compiled with gcc 3,4.5
But the install disks only contain:
/pool/main/g/gcc-3.3/gcc-3.3-base_3.3.6-8ubuntu1_i386.deb
/pool/main/g/gcc-4.0/gcc-4.0_4.0.1-4ubuntu9_i386.deb

At a minimum it is a BUG that gcc-3.3 rather than gcc-3.4 was included on the
BREEZY.iso
A replacement BREEZY.iso should be assembled with the gcc-3.4 included.
Otherwise Newbies will have to SOMEHOW find their way to the Repository to
download gcc-3.4
BEFORE they can compile drivers
TO get online.
At the <email address hidden> mailing list, we have had to already help a few
Breezy users through this problem
Which preferable should not exist at all!!
