Bug Description

Binary package hint: kaffeine

When latest Hardy Kaffeine fails to load a DVD, it always assumes that the DVD is encrypted, instead of detecting whether there are other causes, like the media not being present at all.

Steps to reproduce:

Click on the "Play DVD" button in Kaffeine when there is no DVD in your tray.

Reproduced this (with no disk in tray) on Hardy.
Unfortunately on my system, Kaffeine claims *any* DVD to be encrypted. Access to the drive is ok, since I can playback the DVD with VLC and access its data when it's mounted.

A slight off-topic, but maybe helpful note:

If Kaffeine gives the "encrypted DVD" warning for every DVD, check if it's pointing to the right device file (/dev/dvd by default) in "Settings > xine Engine Parameters > media > dvd.device".

For some strange reason, my dvd devices were moved to "/dev/dvd2" and "/dev/dvdrw2", causing the above problem with Kaffeine. Probably related to udev update?

See bug #230670 (I don''t want to mark this as a duplicate, as there are two errors - one in udev, one in kaffeine)

In any case, the simplest solution is to delete /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules and reboot - a new file will be generated with /dev/cdrom and /dev/dvd (and their r/w equivalents) pointing to the correct device.

I'm trying to see an iso image of a dvd, but kaffein complains that the dvd is encrypted and libdvdcss is needed even if the library is already installed and vlc plays it without any problem.
My system is kubuntu intrepid.
