Can't copy + paste files between windows (quite often)

Running Gutsy Ubuntu 7.10. Using a combination of Nautilus 2.20.0 and Thunar 0.8.0.
Quite often I can't copy and paste files using Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V or through the right-click context menu. This usually occurs between windows or the desktop, although I haven't found any pattern. Sometimes closing and opening a window will allow me to copy and paste. When I say it doesn't work, I mean that I click "Copy", or hit Ctrl C, then go to the folder I want to copy to and click "Paste" or Ctrl-V but nothing happens.
Usually I can drag the files and they will copy/move correctly.
This happens about 1/3 times I am trying to copy files.

TEST CASE:

* Right click on a file in Nautilus and click copy.
* Open a new copy of Thunar
* Right click and notice that the "Paste" command is grayed out.

If Nautilus and Thunar are already opened, "Paste" is available.

LATEST PACKAGES TESTED:

Thinar 0.9.0-10ubuntu1
Nautilus 1:2.24.0-0ubuntu2

does it only happen when "excanging" files between nautilus and thunar or within one program as well?

It's hard to tell for certain because it is difficult for me to reproduce the bug.
I think that it would usually be between nautilus and thunar.

I can always reproduce this, slightly different, bug:
* Right click on a file in Nautilus and click copy.
* Open a new copy of Thunar
* Right click and notice that the "Paste" command is grayed out.

I can confirm that trying to copy/paste from nautilus to Thunar is grayed out most of the time. When it is grayed out Thunar will sometimes locks up and I do a force quit.
I have had it happen in Nautilus but not often

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

+1, though I'm finding pasting between Thunar windows via the shortcut always fails. In other words to reproduce simply:
- open two Thunar windows
- select a file and copy (ctrl+c)
- in the other window try to paste - the shortcut (ctrl+v) doesn't work but doing it via the menu (Edit > Paste) does

I can paste between 2 windows fine in xfce but I cannot copy from the desktop to a thunar window.

Anyone else only have this?

Is that copy and paste between 2 windows using the shortcuts? This bug is that the menu commands are working but the shortcuts are not.

maybe when Caps Lock on, the ctrl + V doesn't work, but the ctrl + C work perfectly. I had this problem in Firefox with ubuntu 10.10

This should be fixed in thunar 1.2.2 (in oneiric).
