Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

Whenever I try and use "System - Administration - Login Window", after asking my password, the login window screen never comes up. Instead, I can hear my harddrive constantly clicking and clicking, and the HD light keeps flashing.

Ctrl+Alt+backspace does not help, I have to reboot for it to stop.

Ubuntu 8.04,

vadi@ubuntu-laptop:~$ apt-cache policy gdm
gdm:
  Installed: 2.20.6-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.20.6-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.20.6-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://ubuntu.mirror.rafal.ca hardy-updates/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     2.20.5-0ubuntu3 0
        500 http://ubuntu.mirror.rafal.ca hardy/main Packages
vadi@ubuntu-laptop:~$

I expected the screen to pick my login theme to come up. Instead it didn't and kept abusing my harddrive :(
