Cannot disable favicons

Bug Description
Binary package hint: firefox-3.0
I am using Firefox 3 Beta 5 (the default with a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04).
Using about:config, I have set both of the following to false:
browser.
browser.
However, I am still seeing icons for sites listed in my bookmarks.
Using synaptic to check the version, I have
3.0~b5+

But in general those settings work? I guess the bookmarks dont honour
that setting for favicons already downloaded.
another thing would be to test firefox 3 RC1 which is currently
available for testing hardy-proposed. Either test that now or wait
till it arrives in hardy-updates.
