Bug Description

If I change mouse setting to left-handed mouse, tapping on touchpad produces context menu. I think, that it would be correctly not to change touchpad behavior when changing mouse settings

I can confirm this behavior on Dell Inspiron 640m and Ubuntu 8.04 To check it you need only laptop with mouse and touchpad.

As it was already suggested, tap on a touchpad should always be resolved to a left mouse button click of right handed mouse (do not know how to explain this more clearly).

There is not really convenient workaround: one may switch off treatment of taps as a mouse button clicks and use touchpad only for cursor movement and touchpad buttons for clicks.

From an Upstream report on the same issue:

In other words, there is no way for us to distinguish a left mouse button click from a touchpad tap. You'd have to make your hardware driver recognize the touchpad with a different button id (no idea if that's actually possible). Sorry.

So I'm closing the bug as it's not a control-center issue
