Bug Description

Hello, it goes like this:

- boot into hardy and ubuntu starts with the lowest brightness available;
- press Fn+Home (brightness up) and there are 5 steps instead of 7 and brightness doesn't go to the max (if gdm is killed there are 7 steps to the maximum brightness)
- press Fn+End (brightness down) there are 3 steep steps until lowest brightness (also from 7 )

Please tell me whta commands to log to give some relevant information about this bug.

it's Fn + Home/End actually, sorry about that.

Another thing is that when GPM is stopped, there are 7 steps up and 7 down for brightness, as normal, but no on-screen notification.
