Cannot install f-spot extensions

Bug Description

Binary package hint: f-spot

F-Spot gives "warning" (should rather be "error"s!) messages like attached when trying to install Extensions. (Probably due to the lack of write access to install the new assemblies.)

stdout: "Installing Zip export v0.4.3.0" (nothing more related to extension installation)

After trying to install the facebook and zip export extensions and relaunching, the export to facebook menu item appeared, but clicking it crashed, saying it could not load the facebook export assembly.

thanks for your report, is this still an issue for you? I've testing installing several extensions and it works fine for me, thanks.

There's still weird stuff happening.

Now, I uninstalled both facebook and zip export. At first, I got two warnings about unloadable assemblies, one for the facebook export dll and one for zip export. With the second uninstall, only one of the two messages appeared. Unfortunately I was puzzled enough to not take any notes, so I don't remember which of the two assemblies failed loading that time.

Then, I installed Facebook export again.
While installing, though, I got another warning about the Zip (!!) export assembly being unloadable.
Remember: I uninstalled Zip export previously! It does neither appear in the Export Menu, nor in the installed Extensions in the Extension Manager.

Facebook export works since. (Previously, f-spot crashed when I selected it from the Export menu)

So I tried to continue by adding the Zip export add-in as well. The installation gave twice the same error about the zip export assembly (attaching a screen shot). Zip export did not show up in the Export menu afterwards.

could you try the same with another new user? and if you experience the same with it forward the bug upstream to bugzilla.gnome.org? thanks.

The Facebook export addin worked right out of the box this time;

Zip export did not install again, though.

Here comes the installation process in screen shots. I hope this helps some way!

may you forward it since you're facing the issue?

Hum. Actually, I consider myself an ubuntu user, not an upstream user.
Therefore, I'd like to have launchpad to be the only place I need to be registered in order to help my beloved distribution.

I was already told to forward Bug #230098, Bug #241956, Bug #239438 and Bug #237649. (Until now, I didn't forward any of them, since bugzilla is kinda scaring me.)

(Oh, and my Question #36032 (about Bug #239438) was ignored until it had expired. So I should ask this question upstream, too...)

Isn't it possible to keep the forwarding work with the bug management people?

Sorry, I should have said I have seen the exact same behavior in Ubuntu 8.04 with all of the latest updates as of today. If anything else is needed of me, please let me know.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Intrepid Ibex. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
