Bug Description
Binary package hint: pidgin
My ~/.purple directory contains symbolic links to my personal settings (prefs.xml, accounts.xml and blist.xml) which reside in a Subversion sandbox. Whenever Pidgin starts, it seems to parse these files and then overwrite them with proper files containing the same configuration information plus other info. This makes it harder to handle the configuration data for synchronization across computers.

I agree. Is sounds like a good idea to be able to set an option in pidgin not to overwrite those files, in case you want to store them on a centralized server.
q: will pidgin work if you set the file permissions to read-only?
