Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Usually when I exit Firefox it offers the option to save the open-tab state so I can return to the same tabs when first browsing next time I open Firefox. However, I noticed once it did not ask when I closed Firefox, and then I noticed that I had a Page Source window open behind Firefox's main window. I first closed Firefox using the "X" window decoration icon in the upper-right corner (GNOME), then I noticed I didn't get the Save Tab State option, then I used "X" to close the Firefox Page Source window. Finally, when I reopened Firefox, my tabs were gone--they were not automatically returned to. I had to search my history to find the tabs I had open.

I just tested using the procedure explained in the original bug post. The bug still exists in 3.0 RC1, so this bug post is still valid.

I also tested using the "polite" app. exit method, using "File->Quit", instead of hitting the "X" close-window button in the upper right. The buggy behavior is also apparent using the polite exit.

This ticket can probably be canceled. The tab-saving behavior in Firefox 3.0 (final version) appears to be different than in the 3.0b5 and RC series. I just turned on "Edit->Preferences->Main->Startup, "When Firefox starts: Show my windows and tabs from last time". Now, my tabs are automatically opened upon re-entry into Firefox, like I want them to be. The old behavior in the 3.0b5/RC series was that upon exiting Firefox, a pop-up dialog box would ask "Do you want to save tabs for redisplay next time?" to which I would always click Yes. Now that question doesn't appear anymore for some reason, no matter how I exit Firefox, so I was losing my saved tabs until I read about the Startup option at Firefox's support database website. Now, even if I have a View->Page Source window open, when I exit Firefox and then close the Source window, my tabs are remembered for the next time Firefox starts.

Thanks for looking into it anyway...

I can still reproduce this in Firefox updated to 05-07-2008.

It never asks me to save the current session when a source code or "downloads" window are open.

I have disabled all my extensions and even tested it on a new user profile, and it still happens. My version is Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008061015 Firefox/3.0, I have checked it is up to date with the repositories and I have not modified the default settings.

I can reproduce the bug in Intrepid, with a clean, new profile.
If I open the "Download" window, or view source of a page, and then exit the navigation window, Firefox warns me if I'm closing multiple tabs, but does not asks me if I want to save them.
I think it would be the expected behavior if another navigation window was open, but it is not if it's the last navigation window.
