PenguinTV Crashes on Launch

I am running Ubuntu gutsy 7.04 fully patched. The PenguinTV program used to work, but then it started crashing on launch. (I am not upgrading to hardy 8.04 for other reasons, and unfortunately I do not have another computer on which I could test this issue in hardy.) I use Linux Kernel 2.6.22-14-generic and GNOME 2.20.1. To reproduce this issue:

Start the program from Applications > Internet > PenguinTV. Result: The User Interface starts coming up, and then it vanishes without a trace.

Start the program from Applications > Accessories > Terminal > at the prompt, type in PenguinTV (note capital letters - they matter), and hit Enter. Result: you get no User Interface at all, but you do get the error messages shown below:

While the error messages in my case looked different than in Bug #147318, the solution that was noted by ubuntu_demon at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/penguintv/+bug/147318/comments/5 seemed to work for me, too. At least, I got the PenguinTV User Interface back, and it loaded the list of feeds. I have had no time to test it further yet.

Note: there were still some error messages, but I only noticed them after I had closed it by clicking on the [X] in the top right of its User Interface window:
