Bug Description

My normal workflow with taking screenshots involve first saving the file to the Desktop, then going to the desktop to do something with the file, such as open in eog to print or GIMP to edit. Surely, it would be useful if the gnome-screenshot application could allow the user to open the file directly from within itself? Maybe a save-and-open button that uses the default application?

gpe-screenshot is not the GNOME screenshot package, it has nothing to do with GNOME - wrong package. Reassigning.

thank you for your bug report, that would be something to discuss upstream, the dialog already has quite some options and it's easy enough to open an image
