No Global Hotkeys by default

Bug Description

Binary package hint: amarok

Amarok should not bind any keys globally (i.e., grabbing them away from other applications) by default. This is quite obnoxious and particularly so because amarok seems to have bugs in this area. In particular, I see my keypresses stacking up and then being released when I mouse on a menu.

As a related problem, there seems to currently be no way to bind certain functions non-globally. So, for example, if I want to bind Alt-Right to "play next track", but only when Amarok has the focus, there is no way to do so.

Thanks for the bug report, Mike. Global hotkeys have been a sore point in Amarok for a while, you're right. Part of this stems from running Amarok, a KDE app, in Gnome. To make sure this is still a valid bug before reporting it to Amarok developers, could you please update to the latest version of Amarok in Jaunty [1] and let us know if this is still an issue? Include the version of Amarok (''apt-cache policy amarok'') and what environment you're running in -- Ubuntu/Kubuntu/etc.

Thanks!

I have verified that Amarok still grabs a number of keys globally. (They're all Meta keys, but still...) I've only used it for a few minutes, so I'm not sure whether the "keypress stackup" problem still exists.

I'm running an updated Ubuntu Jaunty.

$ apt-cache policy amarok

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.10). If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect 230533, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

I don't use Amarok anymore, nor do I have access to the machine I was seeing this on, so I guess you can close it out.
