This bug disables an SD card reader in this laptop but is otherwise pretty harmless. I've just checked that a vanilla 2.6.25.3 kernel has this bug fixed.

Hi Guys,

Care to first try booting with the 'irqpoll' option to see if that helps.

Additionally, Piotr, you mention you tested with the upstream 2.6.25.3 kernel and that this bug is resolved with that newer kernel. Would either of you care to test the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 kernel? It was most recently rebased with the upstream 2.6.25 kernel and is currently available in the following PPA:

https://edge.launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive

If you are not familiar with how to install packages from a PPA basically do the following:

Create the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/kernel-ppa.list to include the following two lines:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kernel-ppa/ubuntu hardy main

Then run the command:

sudo apt-get update

You should then be able to install the linux-image-2.6.25 kernel package. After you've finished testing you can remove the kernel-ppa.list file and run 'sudo apt-get update' once more to restore your system. Please let us know your results. Thanks.

irqpoll doesn't help.

The 2.6.25-1.2ubuntu4 kernel enables use of the SD card reader, but causes problems with Intel 4965 WiFi card.

Hi Piotr,

Care to do one more test for me . . . care to test the latest Alpha for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing which contains a 2.6.26 kernel. Please let us know your results. Thanks again.

Well, I tried Intrepid kernel on a Hardy box and everything works until IRQ19 is disabled again. The bug is still here even on the latest 2.6.27-rcs. I reported earlier that some 2.6.25 versions work - I was mistaken since it can take 20 minutes after boot for this bug to strike.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Commentry on the upstream bug implies that the Ubuntu kernel based on 2.6.27.2 no longer suffered from this bug. Could those of you who were affected by this confirm whether this bug is resolved for you. Please report back here. Thanks in advance!

Both Intrepid 2.6.27 and Jaunty 2.6.28 work fine and these problems are no longer present. SD card reader works too, so this bug can be closed as fixed upstream.

Closing per previous comment. Parag, since you are the original bug reporter, feel free to reopen if this is not resolved for you with the most recent Karmic 9.10 Alpha release - http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/ . Thanks.
