Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase

I'm using kubuntu in a nis domain. The domain provides nfs shares via nis that is mounted with autofs. My $HOME is mounted this way. My problem is that when typing / in the address bar the system freezes while looking for .directory in the automounted catalogs. I cannot do anything while konqueror tries to find .directory. The desktop is locked several minutes. I can move the mouse and terminals can refresh, but I cannot switch window until konquerer stops looking for .directory files in the shares.

I have the following messages in my syslog i have three mount points /home /sw and /net.

May 13 08:45:41 flint automount[1878]: mount(nfs): nfs: mount failure server.domain.net:/san/home/.directory
 on /home/.directory
May 13 08:45:41 flint automount[1878]: failed to mount /home/.directory

I am using kubuntu 8.04.

Is this still an issue with KDE 4/Kubuntu Intrepid?

I havn't runned kde4/intrepid in this environment. And the problem disapeared when the nis server started to work again.

In other words I cannot repeat the problem without the faulty nis server (running hp-ux)...

I guess we can assume that it was a server-side configuration issue.

If you should stumble upon such an issue again, I suggest you report it at http://bugs.kde.org since issues with NFS/NIS are most likely in KDE itself and not a Kubuntu specific change. :)
