Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

In gnome-terminal, when I press CTRL+a, nothing happens. I must press CTRL+q to go at the line beginning.

You have to know that I have two layouts configured in gnome: us and fr. In the french layout, the key 'a' is on key 'q' on an us keyboard.

It is possibly related to bug #23244.

thanks for your report, that works fine here, which keyboard layout are you using? may you test with another user, there's maybe something broken on your configuration.

I have just tested with a user created for the test. The bug still appears. I have two layouts configured: 'USA Macintosh' and 'France Alternative'.

When using the 'USA Macintosh' layout and the macbook qwerty keyboard, everything is fine. I can type Ctrl+a to go to the beginning of the line.

When using the 'France Alternative' layout with my azerty keyboard, things does not work properly. If I type 'a', the letter 'a' is correctly printed but CTRL+a does not go to the beginning. I have to press CTRL+q. If I type 'q', the letter 'q' is correctly printed.

Why do you mark the priority as low? To me, it is a big problem as I always use shortcuts like this. And I'm probably not the only one.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

This is still a very annoying problem.

I've noticed this too, albeit in an old version

I normally use US English Dvorak and add US English for friends using my laptop. I use the Keyboard Indicator 2.20.0 panel to switch layouts.

It seems like the ctrl keys use the mapping of the first keyboard in the Keyboard Preferences -> Layouts list.

If I have the layouts listed in order dvorak, qwerty and the keyboard indicator says USA then pressing physical_Y displays 'f' and pressing Ctrl + physical_Y prints '^F' in gnome-terminal. If I switch to qwerty using the panel (panel changes to USA_2) physical_Y prints 'y' and Ctrl + physical_Y prints '^F'. Repeating a similar experiment with layouts in order qwerty, dvorak produces the opposite results. The layouts appear to be sorted in the order they are added.
