Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please tell us which version of the mozilla thunderbird package you've installed on your system. Is this still an issue in a recent version? If it is, can you please try to reproduce this error using a new profile?:

1. Close Thunderbird
2. $ mv ~/.mozilla-thunderbird/ ~/.mozilla-thunderbird_old
3. Start Thunderbird, add an account and try to reproduce.
