Drop down menus on gnome panel broken after Hardy upgrade

Bug Description

Upgraded from Gutsy to Hardy and after logging in none of the menus on the gnome panel work. When I click Applications, Places, or System they highlight but no drop down appears. If I launch Firefox from the terminal it will open but the menus in there do not work either for file, edit, view, etc. It seems to be a global drop down menu problem but I don't know specifically which package is causing the issue.

I killed compiz and that restored my menus but now things are messed up because compiz isn't running so it has something to do with that.

I'm going to mark this as a duplicate of bug 326756 because there is no other reports of this occuring due to compiz. It may have been restarting any window manager would fix the problem. Please re-open if this there is any evidence to show this is not true.
