Desktop freezes with firefox accessing a nonresponsive web site

Bug Description
Using Hardy when i access a web site with firefox and the server is not responding but stalled in a waiting mode I can not close the application or tab in firefox. The whole desktop is not responsive while the network pending operation is active. I have to reboot X to back to a useable state.
