Bug Description

Binary package hint: cupsys

After the upgrade from gutsy gibbon to hardy heron, CUPS always fails to print with the error message "/usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd failed" (in http://localhost:631/printers/).

My notebook is attached via ethernet cable to a Netgear printserver.

URI: lpd://192.168.1.100/L1

printer: Kyocera FS-680 Foomatic/hpijs (recommended)

Before the upgrade I never had any printing problems with this configuration (as well as with my second notebook attached in the same way to the Netgear printserver and still running gutsy gibbon).

Stefan

PS: Because of the many bugs in hardy heron I refuse to upgrade my second notebook at the moment, too. I am very disappointed about this buggy Ubuntu release...). I also don't understand the switch to the buggy beta version of Firefox, not supported by most of the plugins, yet.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
