Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description does not yet have enough information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" after a fresh boot and attach the resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-related bug reports is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in advance!

wjpwu:
From dmesg you have a pb with the PCI bridge ( [ 18.296865] PCI: Failed to allocate mem resource #6:20000@d0000000 for 0000:01:00.0 )

Regarding lspci output the device is 00:01.0 PCI bridge [0604]: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/PM/GMS, 943/940GML and 945GT Express PCI Express Root Port [8086:27a1] (rev 03)

This might be the cause of the timeouts.

Please can you try booting with 'pci=nomsi' or 'acpi=off' or 'noapic' and tell if this is still an issue.

Thanks,

Sorry, it's late and I should have checked twice before posting. The device 01:00 is VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation G72M.

Nevertheless, can you still try the boot parameters.

I try all the parameters, but it is not helpful , still have timeout pb.

Does it occurs under a certain I/O load or when copying large files ?

Before forwarding it upstream can you give a try at kernel 2.6.25 ? Archives are available here https://launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive .

WARNING: this may break things (especially video driver)

Another suggestion.

The error happens on your DVD drive. Did you check integrity of the media you're reading ?
Can you connect dvd drive and hard drive on 2 different channels ?

After some more digging it appears that this issue is already known upstream.

The current workarounds for the TSSTcorp TS-L632D problem are:
 - update firmware to SC03 or some version that works (preferred)
 - kill hald-addon-storage
 - keep a disc in the drive

The TSSTcorpCD/DVDW TS-L632D has a firmware bug.
Solutions discussed here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/75295/comments/97

The following are indicators of this problem:
"[ 1430.749371] ata1: port is slow to respond, please be patient (Status 0xd0)" see wjpwu dmesg above (message a little different pre-hardy).
& most people also report a freeze cycle of about 5 seconds with a very short period of un-freeze (for feisty & gutsy - not sure about hardy).

This is a duplicate of Bug #75295 but for Hardy. The upstream report should be closed (unless someone is building a workaround - unlikely).

I have been using the TSSTcorpCD/DVDW TS-L632D cross-flashed with Samsung SC03 firmware (from ASUS AS05 firmware) for 9 months without re-occurrence of issue.

The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.
