URL field too small

The URL field is too small to really be usable.

We discuss this bug today at the Canonical / Intel triage meeting for Acton and I was given the action item to add a bug.

Carl discussed the idea of removing the Home button to make more room for the URL field.

I feel we could even shrink the size of the icons that share the bar with the URL field. Even on the Jax10 (800x480) they are plenty big to hit even with a fat finger. The Marquee has applet buttons that seem to be a good balance of useful size while not being real estate hogs.

I have uploaded a version of browser to ppa which has the home button removed. Please take a look and see if this make the url bar look better.

Launch midbrowser
Web show message: "# Do NOT localize or otherwise change these values
                                        browser.startup.homepage=http://www.google.com"
the URL is " resource:///midbrowserconfig.properties"

If we want to go homepage needed to click drop down menu chosen "Tools->Preferences->Main->Restore to Default"
then re-launch browser would be "google" homepage.

Now the source cannot be downloaded by using "apt-get source" from your web.

Carl, can you add the version of the package you uploaded?

If I look in the PPA, the latest version of the midbrowser is: 0.30b5a-6-0ubuntu1

The latest changelog entry visible from LP says:

midbrowser (0.3.0b5a-6-0ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * Added debian/midbrowser.links to create a symlink /usr/lib/midbrowser/defaults/syspref ->
    /etc/midbrowser/pref as part of the install.
  * Backed out the "ln -s" command from the debian/rule file. It was not the right thing to do.

The version 0.30b5a-6-0buntu1 has the change wehere I removed the home button. The reason the change log didn't show the change is because I made that change in 0.30b5a-5-0butun1 package, but the build failed because the symlink that I put in the debain/rule file was incorrect. I had to fix that and upload a new version.

I reviewed the latest build in UME 20080522 and the URL field does look better. I still think we could shrink the icons along the bottom. This would allow for more space in the bar for URL, but also provide a bit more real estate for web page viewing.

This can be entered as a Wishlist bug if not relevant for UME v1.
