Backports only concern packages that are in Intrepid. You should file this bug in abiword and wait for the package to hit the repos before refiling a bug here.

IMHO we dont need to keep backporting a package just because its newer
version. However im not a backporter but as i said its my opinion. If we
keep updating a package due to newer version and doesnt fix any show
stopping bugs when will it end. Now with hardy i would say wait until
Intrepid is pretty much done than take the latest doing it once will cut
down on any bugs that will be introduced.

but what if the new version has many bugs fixed?
for me it fixed a big problem that version 2.4 has with displaying Hebrew text because of the new Pango based renderer. the version that in Intrepid now works well and i think ts safe to backport it to hardy.

We still cant keep adding packages to a LTS release or we are just
looking at problems in the future. Im not saying that there will or wont
be issues but every update you make has potential to bring in bugs. I
would suggest we update most of these pakcages during the point
releases. as in 8.04.1 as we did in dapper. that way everything is
updated at once and is less likely to introduce new bugs.

Abiword 2.6.3 was rejected for the point release *because* of the amount of changes (fixes and bugs) it brings in. People watching the bug to include it in 8.04.1 were recently told to file a bug against hardy-backports.

This package will need its dependencies backported:

pbuilder-satisfydepends-dummy: Depends: debhelper (>= 7) but it is not installable
Depends: libboost-date-time1.35-dev which is a virtual package.
Depends: libboost1.35-dev which is a virtual package.
Depends: libboost-regex1.35-dev which is a virtual package.

As its unlikely that boost can qualify for backports, I'm marking this one WONTFIX.

In these are several source backports (backports, which changes source of packages) in hardy-backports, why Ubuntu backporters can't make a source backport of abiword package?
