Bug Description

Binary package hint: k3b

when K3b verifies a burned medium, it fails the medium and says it is not the one burned. I always checkk the CD/DVDs after failed verification and see its good! I happens 80% on times.

This happens 100% of the time with CD's and DVD's on Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop AMD64 running GNOME. K3b is version 1.0.4 under KDE 3.5.9. Bug is hardware independent, except possibly for the particular burner used, as it occurs on various systems using the same system image but different hardware. The burner (internal IDE) is the same across all systems. The burner used is a LITE-ON model DVD+-R/W, the CD/DVD media varies.

Consistently able to reproduce to bug myself across multiple systems using the same software configuration but different hardware (with the exception of the make/model burner).

MohamadReza, please post your versions/architecture of Ubuntu, K3b, KDE, and any other details you can think of like make/model of burner and burner interface (IDE, SATA). Also, is the user profile you used a custom template pulled from /etc/skel? Mine is, so it may be an issue with the template profile.

It does not happens for me always, but about 80%of times. I use i386 Kubuntu 8.04 KDE 3.5.9 and 4 and K3B 1.0.4. My writers are "Suzuki SL-188 DVD+RW" and "LiteOn CD RW". I have this issue also on my laptop. I can reproduce this bug easily lots of times.

k3b verification of burn fails - hardy heron even though every burn is subsequently checked good using terminal and md5sum. task is - in this case - burn of ubuntu desktop iso.
Desktop machine in tower hardware

k3b 1.0.4 (using KDE 3.5.9)
in kubuntu hardy heron updated fully to date 2008 september 13
burner hardware reports as
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S203P
external marking as
Super Writemaster Speed plus
Interface type reported as generic scsi but is ide in fact

PLEASE NOTE:
It is noticed that the CD drive does NOT eject and insert at the end of the burn process. I guess this means that the verify process may be running without a clean unmount and mount before it starts.

Happened several times when burning DVDs (files directly and ISO) on my system, too:
- Kubuntu Hardy, fresh install
- k3b 1.0.5
- KDE: 3.5.10
- Device: LG GSA-4120B

First I assumed this was due to a disk being overburned, but others were way below the 4.4 GB size limit.
I've used kdiff3 to check the data and the disk is perfectly ok.

Reading the above comment, I also confirm that the drive stays closed between burning and checking.
