Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-calc

After upgrading to Ubuntu 8.04 I have problems loading existing ods files. When there are multiple fonts mixed in a singe cell, the formatting is lost and all characters are displayed in the same font upon reload of the document.

In the attached document the cell A2 is a mix between Arial and Open Symbol, the PDF shows it correctly, but it only shows in open symbol on reload of the document.

It looks fine to me and exports to PDF properly as far as I can tell. Check the 'i' in both words and notice it is different fonts. I am attaching a screenshot of the open file. What is the problem exactly, or does my version look right to you?

Chris

Oh by the way, do you actually have the fonts installed that the documents you are having problems with are using?

The Cell A1 is indeed rendered correctly, but A2 is not, also not in your screenshot. Compare the output to the PDF and you see the difference. The first character in A2 should be an uppercase 'L' in Arial.

It's apparently already fixed in the trunk and 2.4 build. Can that please be included in the Ubuntu built?

The pdf looks the same to me, but if it is fixed in ooo-build then I will probably be able to get it fixed in 8.04.1 as well.

Sorry for the multiple comments my internet access was having problems and I didn't think it had gone through.

Hi Chris,

please look at the bitmap that I've attached and compare the cell A2. In OOO it shows a greek symbol instead of an uppercase 'L'. The PDF shows it correctly.

Thanks for including the fix!

SkyScrap,

I understand what you are saying, but on my system both in OOo and in the PDF it produces on my machine they both look the same and that is like what it looks like on your OOo (not PDF output). In any case it will likely be fixed when I make the next upload of OOo for 8.04.1.

Thanks,

Chris

Ok, now I understand. I think I produced the PDF after I changed to ODS after loading and made the 'L' Arial again. Otherwise I assume my pdf will look the same as yours.

Is there already an estimate when the next upload will happen. Do I get the fix automatically or is there a way to get it earlier?

I see a very similar effect in Writer. I had some text that mixed the symbol font with Arial in a single line. The text included German Umlauts ä, etc. These were corrupted (other characters were displayed) when also the symbol font was used in the same line.

I am running Hardy 8.0.4 with the latest updates (not proposed). Will this fix apply to all OpenOffice appications?

I have tested on a fresh Hardy system where I can confirm the problem and on a -proposed system where i can confirm the fix.

Ian, please see this page for how to test with -proposed: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed

If you can still confirm your issue please open a new bug report.
