Bug Description
Binary package hint: brother-
Hi,
I'm trying to get my Brother MFC-685CW printer working in hardy as a network printer.
When I go to setup the printer, it detects the IP address etc but the model does not appear in the list of printers.
The brother solutions centre has a workaround that also gives a better clue about the problem. As per below I was able to work around the problem by manually creating the /usr/share/
From http://
"
# Ubuntu 8.04 does not have /usr/share/
Please follow the instruction below when the installation failed with the message about it.
1. Uninstall the cupswrapper driver.
Command : sudo dpkg -P (driver name)
2. Create /usr/share/
Command : sudo mkdir /usr/share/
3. Install the cupswrapper driver
Command : sudo dpkg -i --force-all --force-
"
Obviously the workaround is not ideal, hence the filing of a bug :)
Thanks for your bug report. Actually, Brother packages does not install very well, the workaround you needed to use only apply to the official Brother printer drivers from their website, you should not need to create that folder if you use the brother packages available in ubuntu repositories. According to your printer name and this wiki https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/BrotherDriv erPackaging, you should install brother- cups-wrapper- extra and brother- lpr-drivers- extra from synaptic and you will have necessary printer drivers in cupsys for your printer. Can you try this?
