screen saver freezes laptop in Hardy Haron

My laptop has

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

My screensaver options are random screen saver that starts after 2 minutes and, as power management, monitor pauses after 20 minutes idle.
When my screensaver starts, after some minutes my system freezes (screen saver stop to animate) and the only solution is to ctrl_alt_canc and then enter (however I don't see anything when I press this key combination).

Another time, when I scrolled various screen saver from system -> preferences -> screen saver and selected GLSlideshow the system freezes (the only solution was to switch off the power of my laptop)

I'm getting something similar on a HP zd8000 with ATI Radeon x300. The system freezes when the screen saver is active, resulting in a slightly smeared display. No response from the system, however I can occasionally get the system to respond by pressing power button and going to sleep mode and back.

I've noticed some PAM errors in the user.log. (attached) Not sure if they are relevant, but there appear to be in gnome-screensaver. Also, I've never seen a unlock screen dialog.

are looking to a gl based screensaver? that could be due to the video driver rather.

Pedro, I also think the problem is due to gl based screensaver. After having posted this bug I only enabled blank screensaver and I never had problems.
However I will try again to select a random screen saver and test if the bug is still present in the current kernel version (I don't know if the intel driver was updated since last year).

Sebastien, I can confirm that this is still an issue. After one month of tests with random screen saver the system hanged up some minutes ago (in Hardy full updated)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Is this reproducible with Ubuntu 9.10 the Karmic Koala? Please test and provide us of feedback about it, Thanks in advance..

In 10.04 the bug didn't happen yet. Maybe was fixed.
I think we can close this bug as "fix released" and, at least, if it should happen, may be opened again.
