Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase

This is tangentially related to KDE bug 98405 - there is no action to switch between offline and online browsing modes.

However, my problem is not that I can't switch to offline mode when I need to. It's that when I remove the network cable and NetworkManager goes into disconnected mode etc, Konqueror seems to go into a NON USER VISIBLE offline mode.

I.e. in Konqueror settings it says it's not in offline mode, and it's using my personal offline caching proxy, polipo. But actually if I try to visit a site which is in my polipo cache, I get a Konqueror error message "Could not connect to host", which should NEVER happen when a proxy is configured - so I think it gives up because it knows it's offline, when really it has a cache.

This is new in Hardy; it worked fine in Gutsy and it really sucks. (It means I have to use firefox). I suspect this might be a Ubuntu specific patch, which is why I'm reporting it here.

Yup. I have 4.1.2 from the PPA.

I see the Konqueror "Connection to Server Refused" when what I should be seeing is the cached page from polipo (or a _polipo_ error page).
