What else showed a crash and please attach the 3 files in /var/log/dist-upgrade so we know why it reported crash, normally this happens when a package fails to configure or install properly.
Or you had firefox open when you restarted. can you confirm either of these issues? but the latter is most likely unless something else crashed and took FF with it like X or gdm
