Bug Description
Ok, as I understand by reading the last post in Bug #108527, I should report this issue seperately as several different problems with the ATI driver may give identical appearances. Hence, no one else should confirm this bug! Please correct me if I am wrong.
My issue is the same as many others though, that is, my computer freeze randomly when Compiz is enabled on my ATI X300SE. Some keypoints are:
- I have a DESKTOP computer with an ATI X300SE on an PCI-e interface.
- My built-in Intel i986 (or something like that) works fine. Only freeze when Compiz is enabled.
- I'm using the open driver.
- When freezing occur, it often happens in the middle of some animation (menu fade etc). The animation freeze, often with some artifact or missing graphics, etc.
- Mouse cursor still moves, music still plays (for a while).
- When I don't use the computer, or if I am only using it to watch some movie, the freezes occur less frequently. Actually, so far, I haven't seen it freeze any single time while not activelly using the computer (clicking stuff, moving windows etc)
I have other Ubuntu computers in my network so I guess I could do some remote debugging, but I have never done that before so I'm not sure how to do it or what to look for...
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please add your ~/.xsession-errors, /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the output of lspci -vvnn to your bug report as separate attachments? Thanks in advance.
