Bug Description

I can't install Kubuntu 8.04 [Hardy Heron LTS] on Asus M2A-VM HDMI (ATI Radeon X1250)

*Alternate CD (i386)
I started the text mode installation and everything goes well. The installation ends successfully. Starting the system, the Kubuntu splash screen is shown and the system load begins. But after that, the monitor goes into standby mode and the monitor shows only a black screen. I can't do nothing after that.

*Desktop CD (i386)
I started the graphic mode installation and the Kubuntu splash screen is shown. But after that, the monitor goes into standby mode and the monitor shows only a black screen and I can't do nothing after that.
-----------
My Hardware:
Motherboard: ASUS M2A-VM HDMI
BIOS: Tested with 1501 and 1603 version
Processor: AMD Athlon X2 4800+
Video: OnBoard integrated ATI RADEON X1200 Series (X1250) – 128MB shared memory
Monitor: LG FLATRON E701S (CRT)
Memory: 1GB DDR2
Disk: 160 GB SATA Western Digital
Optical: LiteOn DVD-RAM LH-18A1P

Note: I do not have the same problem with Kubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon. The installation is correct and everything works in 7.10.

Well, I'm totally bewildered.
Today I tried to install Kubuntu 8.04 again, on the same hardware and with the same CDs. Everything worked fine this time. On this occasion, after usplash screen the monitor goes off only about 3 seconds but then load correctly the X.
I do not remember having changed some settings in the BIOS.
I do not know if my problem will have to do with these other bugs:

I upgraded from Gutsy Gnome to Hardy today, and pulled in all the updates. After a lot of wrestling, I have this working more or less correctly: two monitors and no way to configure them. But that's another issue. Possibly an update fixed this issue.

Same MoBo and same problems... add to that that I'm a newly recovering Win-oholic and not used to the OS not coddling me like a toddler.
No sound and when I try to install the driver for the video I get the black screen effect. Have to reboot in safe mode and then it works fine but the drivers aren't installed.

Other than that I love this OS and will not go back... nice to know that the guys in the black suits aren't gonna come knock on my door and ask me lots of awkward questions about my OS. *grin*
