Bug Description

Binary package hint: nethack-console

Enable numpad (OPTIONS=number_pad:1) by default to make it easy to start nethacking.

Most users are used to moving with numpad. Very few have ever heard of vi style "jkl..." moving. I watched more than 20 persons install nethack. Most of them tried to move with numpad. Setting numpad is difficult for beginner even with instructions. "O, scroll down until you see 'numpad', then set to one" requires reading a lot of options. Editing config file is not intuitive for a beginner either.

User can set numpad with config file (overwrites existing config):
$ echo "OPTIONS=number_pad:1">$HOME/.nethackrc

Changed in nethack:
importance: Undecided → Wishlist

The problem with this is that enabling the numpad disables the hjklyubn keys which will probably surprise another set of people. I'm not saying this is a bad idea, but I don't want to enable it by default without catering for everyone.
