Bug Description

fpc binaries are available in Debian for i386, amd64, powerpc, armel and sparc: http://packages.debian.org/unstable/source/fpc

But binary packages for armel and powerpc are missing in Ubuntu:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/lucid/source/fpc

This is a self-hosting compiler, and will need to be bootstrapped.

This probably wont happen for breezy, but I'll look at making it happen for dapper.

Hi,

for bootstrapping fpc, the following debian binary packages need to be installed on the buildds:

fp-compiler
fp-units-rtl
fp-utils

Then, a mere build of fpc should result in all binary packages needed to rebuild fpc on it's own again. I verified this on i386, hopefully it will work on amd64, ppc and sparc as well.

Cheers,
     Stefan.

I can (and will) help with this when I get back from my vacation (Monday, July 10th). If you can poke me on IRC (my memory for bugs is pretty abysmal) when I get back, that would be much appreciated.

Can't currently bootstrap on powerpc due to this:

The other arches should be in the archive soon, though.

Adam, the builds for Edgy are blocked by this problem. Could you please bootstrap again?

This has been done for i386, amd64, and sparc. I'd love it if someone could poke into why powerpc explodes (see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=362410) and then tap me on the shoulder to do PPC as well, when they're sure it'll actually work.

Sorry for the delay, guys. :/

Adam, don't we now need a give-back for fpc ? if so, and it'll get done, could you please also give-back libhdate afterwards? (blocked due to the dependency)

Adam Conrad (adconrad) wrote :

Why would I need to give-back a package that was already built and uploaded? Also, the dep-wait on fp-compiler that other packages may have had would have auto-cleared after fp-compiler was actually in the archive (so, after I processed fpc out of queue/new)

Thanks Adam, everything seems to work now.

The PowerPC issue [1] seems to be fixed a long time ago in Debian. Could one of the buildd-admins please bootstrap fpc on ppc?

Reopened this bug: FPC needs to be bootstrapped on Armel and PowerPC. There should be no problems left, cause everything works perfectly well on Debian. (Except that weird Sparc issue)

This bug is well-closed, representing the first bootstrapping of fpc. The bootstrap failure for ppc is better tracked as bug #67544. armel may as well reside also in that bug.
