Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

After upgrading using Adept from Kubuntu 7.10 to Kubuntu 8.04 firefox would not start.
Clicking on the icon would cause an item in the pannel that would go away after a couple of minutes. ps -ef |grep firefox listed firefox as running but not so.
I removed .mozilla/firefox and tried again. No joy.
I uninstalled firefox and reinstalled firefox 3 Beta 5, no joy.

From the command line, after about 10 minutes, firefox will start but if anything is clicked it freezes.

I also have this problem. The Error Console in FF also provides this (after it finally loads):

"Failed to load XPCOM component: /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9/components/pyabout.pyo"

I also have this problem. Or pretty close. It never starts.
I'm running ubuntu 8.04 but with an older kernel (2.6.15-27) that's compatible with VMware workstation 5.
I've removed my .mozilla folder and un-installed everything firefox related.

Running under strace, it stops with:

setsockopt(49, SOL_SOCKET, SO_REUSEADDR, [1], 4) = 0
connect(49, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/tmp/.esd-1000/socket"}, 23

I'm guessing there is something sound-related that's killing it.

We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest firefox version? Thanks in advance.

This bug is still present in firefox 3.0.7 on ubuntu 8.04.

It is a problem with sound. If sound is disabled, working properly, or not esd then firefox works. If sound is broken and esd, then it hangs.

Do we have any more information on this one? Specifically how it relates to sound or esd?
