Bug Description

Hi there

A machine that used to behave perfectly with Gutsy, after an upgrade to Hardy that went well, now hangs when exiting X11 (everytime). 100% Black screen, keyboard unresponsive, cannot shift to text console, cannot kill X.

Using the MagicSysRq "E" unlocks the machine and gives the "system shutdown animated splash" followed by normal system shutdown.

Machine : Acer Aspire 3104 WLMi laptop.

Graphics device : ATI Technologies Inc RS485 [Radeon Xpress 1100 IGP] (per lspci)

X11 graphics driver : fglrx

Bug relates to fglrx : Reverting to xorg's vanilla driver and the problem is gone.
Reinstalling fglrx and the problem is back...

So fglrx in Hardy has a problem it didn't have in Gutsy (where it worked
better in Feisty than in Gutsy)... That's progress...

Swâmi Petaramesh (swami-petaramesh) wrote : [Solved] After upgrade Gutsy => Hardy, exiting X session hangs machine (fglrx)

This problem was solved by patching /etc/ati/authatieventsd.sh (package xorg-driver-fglrx) as described here : http://tsdgeos.blogspot.com/2008/04/fglrx-blocking-xorg-on-logout.html

« Patch /etc/ati/authatieventsd.sh being unproperly configured, you need to change

    XDM_AUTH_MASK=/var/lib/xdm/authdir/authfiles/A$1*
to:
    XDM_AUTH_MASK=/var/run/xauth/A$1*
»

Thanks to Olivier for the solution.

This now needs to be fixed in the xorg-driver-fglrx package.
