Thank you for reporting this bug. Please add the output of "dmesg" when turning on the USB HD.

This is the output when i type dmesg. The hardrive has not been set to mount automatically, but has been manually mounted before typing the message. (Right click, Mount). The name of the USB HD is "USB" and it is approx 297GB in size.

Apologies for posting the same thing twice, I thought the first attempt failed.

Probably should have said this earlier: When the USB HD is set to automount and I turn it on, the CPU power will shoot up to max on both cores despite being on powersave or dynamic. Applications will run, but at snails pace, and I usually have problems getting access to the internet. i.e chat messages either take ages to send or recieve, or fails to display on my laptop alltogether. Internet browsing is also either stopped or severly impared.

Hello,
Kubuntu 8.04 has ended its supported life. Feel free to reopen this report if this crash is still an issue in a more recent version of Kubuntu, though.
