Bug Description

After an upgrade from 6.06 to 8.04 :

The binary ldap_auth, distributed as part of squid, requires two libraries, which it thinks are called libldap_r.so.2 and liblber,so,2

These exist in 8.04 as
libldap-2.4.so.2 -> libldap_r-2.4.so.2
and
liblber-2.4.so.2 -> liblber-2.4.so.2.0.3

But the names are wrong in ldap_auth

Fix:

Add symbolic links in to /lib :
libldap_r.so.2 → libldap_r-2.4.so.2
liblber.so.2 → liblber-2.4.so.2

According to my system, the file /usr/lib/squid/ldap_auth expects libldap_r-2.4.so.2 and liblber-2.4.so.2. Are you using a squid other than that packaged in Ubuntu?

Thanks for the reply. Impressed!

It's a standard ubuntu 8.04 upgrade from a bog standard 6.06 install
using the 6.06 packages. I did an apt-get update-apt-get upgrade too,
beforehand.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

This was fixed by the "squid" binary package built from squid3 sources in Ubuntu Xenial and later. Specifically the ldap_auth helper no longer exists - instead we have a collection of auth helpers using LDAP for different more-specific purposes.
