Bug Description

Binary package hint: amarok

With a fresh Ubuntu Hardy install I am unable to retrieve track and podcast statistics from an iPod Nano 2G in Amarok. Rhythmbox is able to retrieve last play, play count and rating from the iPod.

Installing ipodslave solves this problem.

Please check if you you have ipodslave installed, since it enables kio aware linux apps like konqueror and amarok to access the ipod

That fixed it. Is that documented anywhere? Is there any reason that amarok doesn't require the install of ipodslave?

Probably because it's not required to run. It would have made a nice Recommends or Suggests for the package.
Anyway, in Amarok 2 it doesn't use ipodslave anymore, so depending/recommending/suggesting ipodslave would be counterproductive.
