Bug Description

Hi, I have a HP Pavilion dv 2250BR laptop. The brightness keys never worked properly... I am using ubuntu/kubuntu in this laptop since the version 7.04
When I tried using Kubuntu 8.04 beta2 with Linux 2.6-24-12 the brightness keys worked properly, but now in the final version of Kubuntu 8.04, with the linux 2.6-24-16 image, the keys are working but the brightness does not change.

Using XEV I could check that the keys FN+F7 and FN+F8 are recognized, but the brightness does not change since I upgraded from Kubuntu 8.04 beta 2 to the final version.

The applet in Kubuntu 8.04 recognizes that I am trying to change the brightness as you can see in the picture attached, but as I said before it does not change the brightness since the upgrade.

Keycode - FN+F7 (should decrease the brightness) -> 101
Keycode - FN+F8 (should increase the brightness) -> 212

Both keys seems to be working, just the brightness does not change in the kernel image 2.6.24-16-generic. I was working in the 2.6.24-12-generic.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

I've just tested Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha5 LiveCD and the brightness keys are now working fine for me.

Bug solved, thank you!

I've just tested Kubuntu 8.10 Alpha5 LiveCD and Kubuntu 8.10 Beta LiveCD and and the brightness keys are now working, but there is a slow down to apply the brightness change. Regardless this slow down, it is working.

Thanks for testing and the feedback everyone. I'm going to mark this specific bug as "Fix Released" for Intrepid. Alan, regarding the "slow down" to apply the brightness change, care to open a new bug report. It's helpful to the development teams if bug reports target one specific issue against a specific set of hardware. Thanks.
