HARDY: Show stopper bug: Blank screen only with cursor

I downloaded the new Ubuntu release hardy. did a clean install, preserving my home dir.

The live Cd boots and load okay. then i install, try and log in and i'm confronted with a blank screen with only my cursor.

i have tried deleting the .gnome(2) settings folders but this doesn't help. i can find no information on why it is hanging like this. as i said earlier it is a blank orange screen with my mouse cursor which i can move around. i can use the terminals tty1-tty6. please help. this is the release of hardy i don't know what to do.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card? Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt. Thanks in advance.

Hello, after some searching i have found this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/218434

is seems to be exactly what i am experiencing. can i refer you to that as it is still in effect in the release of hardy and experienced by quite a few people. can i add i don't believe it to be because of flash based hardware.
